WHS Consultant


Position description

The Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCI) is Tasmania's peak employer body delivering programs and services to support businesses in all industry sectors across the state.  TCCI is seeking a highly experienced and qualified Workplace Health and Safety Consultant to support businesses to improve workplace safety and culture.

Key to your success in this role will be your solid knowledge of the Tasmanian Work, Health and Safety Act 2012 and associated regulations, coupled with your proven ability to provide practical support and advice to business. 

This role is about making the complex simple when providing practical advice and support to businesses to achieve cultural change and ultimately make workplaces safer.  This is a fixed term contract to 30 June 2021 with a potential further 2 year extension based on performance.   The position may be part time or full time by negotiation with the successful candidate.

Position location:        South

Requirements:
  • Extensive workplace health and safety experience and knowledge
  • Relevant qualification/s, or working towards
  • Ability to develop and maintain business relationships
  • Be able to quickly and accurately identify customer needs through active listening, problem solving and thinking outside the square to provide effective and practical advice and solutions
  • Ability to strictly maintain confidentiality
  • Professional personal presentation
  • Ability to interpret legislative and regulatory requirements and communicate implications to business with a view to minimising workplace risks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to present to stakeholders as well as preparation of reports and other relevant written documents
  • Work collaboratively as part of a small team
  • Good working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of products
  • Current Driver's licence
Key Responsibilities:
Provide the following services to support reduction of harm in the workplace and improve workplace safety culture and compliance:
  • Provision of advice, coaching, mentoring and consulting services to businesses
  • Delivery of workshops, training and presentations
  • Development of employer and safety networks
  • Delivery of support services to business face to face, via phone and online
  • Provision of updates and resources to business via electronic communications, website and social media
