Competency-based completion

When you enter in to a training contract it is required to have an estimated duration which is referred to as the 'nominal duration'. This is an indication of the time that your apprentice or trainee may take to complete the qualification. The length of the contract may differ from person to person based on previous experience, previous training and how quickly the apprentice or trainee learns the skills that are needed. Towards the end of the apprenticeship or traineeship your Registered Training Organisation (RTO) will advise you that the final assessment is due and once this has been completed and your apprentice or trainee deemed competent, the training contract will be completed.

These requirements are outlined by the Tasmanian Traineeships and Apprenticeships Committee (TTAC) Guideline 10 - Competency-Based completion of Traineeships.
Exceptions to this Guideline apply to the plumbing and electrical trades.

For more information, or if you have any questions regarding competency-based completion you should contact either your Australian Apprenticeships Centre, Skills Tasmania or TCCI's Education and Training Adviser, Kerryn Long on 1300 559 122.
