Wage decision will kick business while it’s down and cost jobs

Release Date: 19/06/2020
Today’s decision on the minimum wage will kick Tasmania’s business community while it’s down and cost jobs, said the TCCI’s CEO, Michael Bailey.

“This will cost Tasmanian businesses an estimated $50 million at a time when many of them are already on the brink financially,” Mr Bailey said.

“You simply couldn’t pick a worse time to make a decision like this.

“We need to be doing everything we can to support businesses to reopen, re-establish themselves and re-engage their employees.  Increasing costs like this is the worst possible decision at the worst possible time.”
