The Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry welcomes the decision handed down today by the Fair Work Commission to reduce Sunday penalty rates for full-time and part-time workers.
‘The message we have consistently heard from business around the state is that they are unable to open on Sundays due to high penalty rates,’ said TCCI CEO Michael Bailey.
‘The decision shows that the Fair Work Commission recognises that we live in a modern society, one that is very different to how it was 50 years ago.
‘It will help build employment amongst those that need it most,’ Mr Bailey said.
This decision is consistent with the message TCCI have argued for with state and federal governments, and one that is being argued nationally by the Chamber movement.
