TCCI welcomes State Government stimulus package

Release Date: 17/03/2020
The TCCI has welcomed the State Government stimulus package announced today.

TCCI CEO, Michael Bailey, said Premier Gutwein has listened to many of the ideas put forward at last week’s industry roundtable.

“This is a rapidly evolving situation and the full extent of the impact on Tasmania will not be known for some time.  However, the package announced today is an important step and shows that the State Government is prepared to listen to the advice of the business community and we encourage them to continue to do so as this situation unfolds,” Mr Bailey said.

“We have been working closely with the State Government to establish a helpline for business to provide advice on the implications of the coronavirus on businesses and the workplace issues that it is causing.  We welcome today’s announcement that the State Government will provide funding to assist operating this vital helpline.  We look forward to announcing more details about the helpline shortly.

“Payroll tax relief, waiving certain business fees, supporting businesses to employ more people and requiring the State Government to pay its bills to local businesses within two weeks instead of four are all welcome measures to help support confidence and assist with business cashflows.  No interest loans may also benefit many businesses.

“As the coronavirus situation unfolds we will continue to advocate for the business community and work with government to do everything we can to help in these difficult times.”
