Salmon announcement deeply concerning

Release Date: 16/09/2021
The Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has expressed its frustration and disappointment at the Government’s decision to dramatically change course on Tasmania’s thriving aquaculture sector.

“I am deeply concerned that the Government had made a decision which will, on face value, place a cap on the size of our vital salmon industry and inevitably lead to decline and job losses”, TCCI CEO, Michael Bailey, said.

“I am also shocked that there appears to be have been no industry consultation on this.

“In addition, the immediate 12-month moratorium raises disturbing questions about sovereign risk.

“I look forward to the Government providing more detail about this policy change, and explaining their rationale for making it.”
