Premier’s Economic and Social Recovery Advisory Council support for Marinus welcomed

Release Date: 21/07/2020
The TCCI has today welcomed the strong support for the proposed Marinus second Bass Strait interconnector in the Premer’s Economic and Social Recovery Advisory Council Interim Report released yesterday.

“The fact that that Marinus Link is alone as being named up as major project for Tasmania’s future in the report highlights just how important it is”, CEO Michael Bailey said.

“Marinus Link will unleash a tsunami of renewable energy development in Tasmania and generate more than 15,000 direct and indirect construction jobs in Tasmania.”

Mr Bailey noted that the Report raised Marinus in the context of the need for the State Government to actively engage with project proponents to find paths to bring project to reality, and that his has become doubly important as a result of COVID.

“We urge the Government to continue to work closely with the Federal Government to reach an agreement on progressing Marinus as soon as possible.”

NB: The Marinus reference is just before recommendation 27.
