Power price plunge a win for business

Release Date: 4/10/2021
Power bills are one of the biggest costs to business in Tasmania and the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry says the Government is on the right track following recent cost reductions.

“Just like households, power bills are one of the biggest costs to businesses,” said Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry CEO, Michael Bailey.

“The best way for any government to support the business sector is through lowering input costs and that’s what the Tasmanian Government is doing with its 'Tasmania First’ energy policy.

“The Economic Regulator’s report shows that Tasmanian businesses in many cases are paying the lowest regulated prices in the country, which is great news.

“But there is more that needs to be done.  The TCCI supports the Marinus Link project, because it will put even more downward pressure on power prices in Tasmania, as well as supporting hundreds of jobs and unlock massive renewable energy investments in the State. We need to get on with this project to ensure the potential benefits become a reality and we look forward to working with the Government to make that happen.”
