New Small Business Minister

Release Date: 27/08/2018
The TCCI today welcomed the appointment of the new Federal Small Business Minister in the Morrison Liberal Government.

“This is a real win for the Tasmanian chamber movement. Before the ‘Vote for small business’ campaign putting a  Small Business Minister back into Cabinet was not on the national agenda,” TCCI CEO Michael Bailey said.

“It’s great news for both Tasmania and the rest of Australia that Prime Minister Scott Morrison has appointed Michaela Cash as the Minister for Small Business.

“This was a one of our key 5 issues for both parties to address in the recent Braddon by-election.

“Following the turmoil of last week in Canberra, it’s good to see the new Prime Minister getting down to the business of Federal Parliament – governing the country.

“Small to medium-sized business drives the economy of Australia, particularly in Tasmania, and the TCCI looks forward to working with Minister Cash into the future.”

Mr Bailey said he remained hopeful the Morrison Government will look to the other 4 issues raised in the Braddon by-election, including:
  1. No repeal of legislated tax cuts for small business
  2. An indexed and ongoing instant asset write off scheme
  3. Decisions of the Fair Work Commission to be honoured by the Federal Government
  4. Making it easier for small business owners to employ people
