Government needs to outline clear plan for re-opening Tasmania to support local business

Release Date: 21/06/2020
The TCCI has called on the Government to outline a clear plan for re-opening Tasmania this week.

“The health crisis has subsided, but the economic crisis is getting worse by the day,” Michael Bailey said today.

“The Government has done a fantastic job managing the COVID-19 pandemic and eradicating the virus from Tasmania.  Now we need to plot a clear path towards re-opening our economy, helping businesses and supporting jobs and the best way to do that is to re-open our borders and make sure sensible precautions are in place.

“The TCCI and its members stand ready to work with the Government to make sure this is done carefully and in a way that minimises risk, but the simple fact is we can’t keep the borders closed forever, and every day that we do jobs are under threat.  We should aim to re-open our borders in line with the timelines set by other states.  We shouldn’t be the last state out of isolation, because it will be a huge setback for our economy, for businesses and for jobs.”
