Business backs TAFE changes

Release Date: 30/09/2021
The Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has welcomed the release of the proposed changes to TasTAFE.

“The business community has been calling for improvements to our skills and training system,” TCCI CEO Michael Bailey said.

“The current model isn’t working and we have to do things differently if we are going to create more jobs and opportunities for Tasmanians.

“The TAFE model we have now is last century thinking and it shows.  We need to bring TasTAFE into the 21st century and that’s what this proposal does.

“We need a flexible, responsive training provider that looks and acts like the businesses it’s meant to be supporting.

“Of course we need to look after the staff and make sure that not one staff member is worse off under the new model, but the main focus has to be delivering a training system that works for trainees, businesses and the Tasmanian community more broadly.

“The TCCI wholeheartedly supports the Government’s proposal and we look forward to it being implemented.”
