TCCI welcomes timeline for return to business

Release Date: 8/05/2020
The Premier’s roadmap to recovery, released this afternoon, has been welcomed by the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
TCCI CEO, Michael Bailey, said it provided certainty to the business community.
“COVID-19 has had a terrible impact on the broader community as well as business but at least we have some certainty now about when the State will reopen and when the business sector can begin rebuilding,” Mr Bailey said.
“Hopefully the worst is behind us and we can now start the recovery process.
“For many businesses, being able to reopen is just the beginning of the long road back to recovery.  We also need to realise that the impact has been so severe that some businesses may never reopen.  We are working closely with all levels of government to minimise the impact and to support as many businesses as possible, but we are in for some tough and challenging months ahead.
“Now that we have the roadmap in place it’s vital that governments turn their attention to rebuilding the economy, creating jobs and helping businesses re-establish themselves.  The economic stimulus packages that the state and federal governments will need to deliver are probably the most important since the end of the Second World War and we will work with them to make sure they deliver for business as well as the broader business community.”
