TCCI Welcomes Edith Creek Sale

Release Date: 29/11/2017
The TCCI has welcomed the sale of the former Murray Goulburn dairy at Edith Creek to Dutch Mill (Australia).

“The Edith Creek factory is a key asset for both the Circular Head community and the entire Tasmanian dairy industry,” TCCI CEO Michael Bailey said.

“The dairy industry holds huge growth potential for the State with the increasing need for quality dairy product on the international market.

“This is particularly evident in China, with its growing middle class and increasing demand for protein products.”

Mr Bailey said Dutch Mill, in Australia and its parent company in Thailand, is a committed long-term investor in the industry both locally and internationally.

“I would like to congratulate all those involved in achieving this result.

“Dutch Mill has plans to develop the plant into a world-class facility utilising innovative technology.”

Mr Bailey said Dutch Mill will now assess the plant’s operational capacity and aims to reopen in the second quarter of 2018.

“The Dutch Mill announcement is also great news for the workers who were employed at the plant and their families.”

“It is a significant reward for TCCI Deputy Chairman, Paul Arnold who leases the dairy farms owned by Dutch Mill, and who has been instrumental in Dutch Mill’s interest in this state.”
