China now a reality for Tasmanian small businesses

Release Date: 27/02/2015
More small and medium sized businesses in Tasmania will soon have their products and services on the shelves in China, thanks to a ground-breaking initiative partnered by the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Export Growth China will officially be unveiled in Tasmania later next month but with a first in policy Tasmanian businesses are urged to register their interest with the TCCI today.
“This is a unique and cost effective project to enable Tasmanian business to share in the opportunity of having their products displayed to thousands of Chinese buyers,” TCCI CEO Michael Bailey said today.
“The program will utilise a custom designed showroom in Shanghai, which features only Australian products and services ready to be sold to Chinese buyers. We can accommodate up to 30 Tasmanian businesses in the initial 120 accepted for this historic campaign.
“Tasmania has potentially a bigger allocation than other states because it’s recognised that there is an affinity between China and the clean, green Tasmanian products.
“The strength of this project is the professional advice available within Australia and the Chamber’s International Trade Division, based at the Shanghai showroom. The trade division will be able to provide real time advice which might be as simple as the labelling, or packaging may need redesigning for the local market, or the size of ingredients might need to be better tailored for the specific market.”
Export Growth China is an initiative of the NSW Business Chamber on behalf of the Australian Chamber Movement and supported by the Australian Government, Austrade, and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade.
The Tasmanian Government will also help subsidise dollar for dollar selected Tasmanian small and medium sized businesses to participate in the project, which will be officially launched at the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania in Hobart on Friday, March 20. Registrations for the event can be made via the TCCI website www.tcci.com.au.
However, the Call to Arms for businesses is to register an expression of interest by visiting www.exportgrowth.com.au to start the diagnostic approach as soon as possible.
