$16 million should stay in the state

Release Date: 6/03/2015
While disappointed that the $66 million Cadbury factory upgrade has been scrapped, the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry is calling on the Federal Government to still invest its promised $16 million in the State.
TCCI Chair Susan Parr said that in the end, Cadbury’s parent company, Mondelez International made a business decision based on economics and future market predictions.
“We trust business to make the right decision and obviously the $66 million redevelopment wasn’t the right business decision.
“Cadbury has invested about $100 million of the past five years and the company has committed to continuing the transformation to a world class cost-competitive centre of excellence.  We support the continued investment of this iconic Tasmanian manufacturer.
“Now we need to ensure that the Federal Government will now reallocate the $16 million into the Tasmanian economy to create sustainable jobs regardless of the business sector,” Ms Parr said.
