TCCI welcomes Red Tape Repeal Bill

Release Date: 25/03/2014
Business welcomes the Federal Government attack on redundant and costly regulation, according to the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the State’s peak industry body.
Tomorrow the Government will repeal two bills aimed at removing 8000 redundant legislative regulations up to a century old.
Last week the Federal Government introduced legislation scrapping red tape, which will save Tasmania $10million a year and the Nation, $700million.
“This is just the first step, the first tranche and is certainly a breath of fresh air for business big and small,” TCCI CEO Michael Bailey said today.
“While it’s not a massive amount considering the $610million paid by Tasmanian businesses to administer the regulation burden of red and green tape, it’s a start which will engender enormous confidence and relief to business.
“Thanks to the inclusive approach by Bass Federal MP, Andrew Nikolic, who is Tasmania’s representative on the Deregulation committee, the TCCI was able to play a significant role through our members providing examples of expensive and unnecessary regulation and compliance issues.
“Backed up by a new Hodgman Government in Tasmania, this curse to industry will be peeled back creating a far clearer environment and reduce the massive cost to business.
“This will encourage businesses investment and expansion which leads to job growth so desperately needed in Tasmania.”
