The Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry will focus on significantly increasing its membership, as well as membership for Tasmanian regional chambers in coming years.
Delivering his report at today’s annual general meeting, CEO Michael Bailey encouraged every business in Tasmania to become a member of a Chamber of Commerce.
“It is critical that business has a clear and consistent voice in our State but too many businesses are leaving the heavy lifting to too few.
“The inclusive approach from the national body, ACCI and interstate chambers, means Tasmania has a voice through national campaigns, as well attracting national support for advocacy and lobbying in Tasmania. We need to maximise the opportunities available and encourage all businesses to come on board,” Mr Bailey said.
Mr Bailey said the pleasing financial performance had been the culmination of a huge amount of work from its passionate and professional team, which lifted the organisation back onto a sustainable footing.
Audited figures showed the TCCI finishing the 2013/14 financial year with a surplus of $72,857, compared to the previous year’s loss of $544,694. This represents a turnaround over the past three years of about $1.4m.
Board member Bill Aronson, didn’t seek re-election. His replacement unopposed is Neil Thomas, business development manager at IT company Anderson Morgan.
Chair Susan Parr has been reappointed along with Deputy Chair Paul Arnold.
