TCCI welcomes RACT-Federal tourism agreement

Release Date: 10/07/2013
PEAK business organisation the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCI)
has welcomed discussions between the RACT and the Federal Group regarding the
potential sale of iconic Tasmanian tourism properties.
TCCI Chief Executive Michael Bailey said the Heads of Agreement between the two
businesses was encouraging and a strong sign that the assets will remain in Tasmanian
hands.
Mr Bailey said the Federal Group had briefed the TCCI and advised that it intended to
concentrate on its high-end properties, Saffire and Henry Jones, as well as its casino
businesses.
“The regional properties currently owned by the Federal Group would fit well with RACT’s
business. An orderly transfer from one leading Tasmanian business to another would
represent good news for employees, suppliers, regional communities, the tourism
industry and the community.
“RACT’s strong interest and potential investment is a major vote of confidence in the
Tasmanian tourism industry and this can only be good for employment and the
economy.
“The TCCI is strongly supportive and is prepared to assist in any way it can to help
promote a positive outcome that benefits all parties,” Mr Bailey said.
