TASMANIAN business will be informed of the State Government’s actions as a result of the initiatives proposed by the recent Jobs’ Forum, at a ‘report-back’ session in Launceston on 7 November.
The Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCI) has invited all participants in the early August Jobs’ Forum to hear direct from Premier Lara Giddings and other stakeholders on the responses and strategies to improve the business climate in Tasmania.
The Jobs’ Forum was facilitated by the TCCI at the request of the Premier as a response to the release in July of nation-high unemployment figures.
The report-back session will be held at the Hotel Grand Chancellor in Launceston from 10 am to 12 noon on Thursday 7 November.
TCCI Chief Executive Michael Bailey said participants would learn the responses to the 13 key recommendations from the Forum, and be introduced to the members of the newly-formed Premier’s Business Advisory Council.
“The establishment of the Business Advisory Council was one of the key recommendations and this group will play a vital link between the business community and the State Government,” Mr Bailey said.
“That is just one of the 13 key recommendations and with the unemployment rate still at unacceptably nation-high levels, we need urgent and effective strategies on all the other proposed measures,” he said.
“The session on 7 November will provide the opportunity to assess and discuss action already taken as well as further proposed actions.”
Mr Bailey said all participants in the Jobs Forum will have the opportunity to ask questions, but to retain the consistency of the process, the questions will be restricted to presenters from the previous Jobs’ Forum.
The report-back session will be chaired by TCCI Chairman Andrew Heap and a light luncheon will be offered to participants at the conclusion.
“The Premier has honoured her commitment to report back within three months and business looks forward to hearing how her Government intends to meet the significant challenges now confronting Tasmanian business, employment and the economy.
“This is a valuable opportunity for the business leaders who contributed to the August Jobs’ Forum and I am confident that they will join in this next important step in the process to build a more positive business environment in Tasmania,” Mr Bailey said.
