Combs is recognised for his pragmatic approach to solving social issues. He has been included in the 'True Leaders' list by the Australian Financial Review, was the inaugural recipient in the Westpac Community Leaders Awards for his role in social entrepreneurship and is frequently called upon to voice his opinion on using employment and social enterprise as a vehicle for social change.
In his youth he was a Gates Millennium Scholar and at the age of 20 was awarded the United States Congressional Medal of Service for his work to champion diversity and inclusion in the education and the community.
In 2018 Michael was invited to the United Nations in Geneva to present the work of CareerTrackers and CareerSeekers as a model of best practice for securing the employment of underrepresented minorities.
